Review of 2020
Things I learned
1. Listen to locals; get K4 Scorcher fins for quad.
2. To gybe better when well overpowered in tight chop.
3, After some tips getting better at DTL, still need to practice.
4. Must practice fast-tack after riding waves in. Can’t do any now
5. Will not try wing foiling as can wind/kitesurf in same conditions and I’ll never put enough time to surf outer swells. Will reconsider foils if they get easier, better range and cheaper
6. Bit of toeside kite riding and gybe.
7. Wakeboarding is fun
8. It is easier to progress kite than it was windsurfing in stronger winds

Despite missing 16 weeks (11 for lockdowns and 5 for minor operations) which had about 40 days I wind/kited 116 days (124 sessions – 75 windsurf and 49 kite). Adding some other days when I could not sail/kite 45%+ of year was sailable, higher than usual
Sails used - 3.7m (6), 4.2m (15), 4.7m (23), 5.3m (13). 6m (17), 7.5m (9).
Kites used - 9m (16, equivalent to 4.7m/5,3m Windsurf), 11m (35, equivalent to mostly 6m/7.5m windsurfing with the occasional 5,3m session).
Correlating kites to windsurf sail sizes 16% of session were <=4.2m, 39% <=4.7m, 57% <=5.3m and 83% <=6m: it has been a windy year. Only 5 sessions in catamaran as too windy or helmsman unavailable.
After seeing Squiz report I’ll add in boards used:
Fanatic Freewave 78l - 15
Tabou DaCurve Quad 86l – 17
Starboard Kode 94l – 13
Goya Custom Pro Quad 94l – 18
JP SuperSport 100l – 9
JP Freerace 125l – 10
Goodboards Crossbay kiteboard 137x41.4cm - 26
Star Cruz kiteboard 142x43cm – 25
I was surprised I went to Rhosneigr (waves) as much as 28 times, 20 to wind surf and 8 to kite. I am also surprised I kited so much but earlier in the year and memories fade.
Average stoke factor was only 3.4 but it was a very good year so maybe I am stingy as 3* is planing 99% of time, get most gybes in and at least OK powered, and if in waves manage a few DTL turns.
